Clinical Analysis of 98 Cases with Cerebellar Strokes

Objective:To evaluate clinical characteristics, diagnostic value of neuroimaging and causes of misdiagnosis of cerebellar strokes.Methods: The clinical data of 98 cerebellar stroke cases were reviewed. Results: The main manifestations of cerebellar strokes were acute dizziness,headache and vomiting.The presentations were easily mistaken for other causes.The diagnostic value of CT is limited because of the bony structures of the posterior cranial fossa.MRI constituted a more reliable diagnostic mean than CT scan in diagnosing cerebellar strokes.Out of the 76 cases with cerebellar infarction,73 cases improved significantly,but 3 died.Out of the 22 cases with cerebellar hemorrhage,19 cases clinically improved after medical or surgical treatment,and 3 cases died.Conclusion: The clinical manifestations of cerebellar strokes are atypical and easy to be misdiagnosed.With CT or MRI,early diagnosis can be made.
