A survey of professional development status of intravenous infusion therapy in Beijing

Objective To investigate the professional development status of intravenous infusion therapy in Beijing,so as to put forward reasonable suggestions.Methods A self-designed questionnaire was used in 59 hospitals to investigate the status of intravenous infusion therapy in Beijing.Results The intravenous infusion therapy teams were built in 43 hospitals(72.88%),198 nurses in 47 hospitals received specialized training of intravenous infusion therapy.The usage rates of steel needle,venous indwelling needle,PICC,central venous catheter(CVC) and totally implant venous-access ports(TIVAP) were 94.92%,100.00%,93.22%,74.58% and 38.98%,respectively.The pharmacy intravenous admixture services were builted in 16 hospitals(27.12%),but the total parenteral nutrition(TPN) was administed by using the pharmacy intravenous admixture services in only 7 hospitals.Chemotherapeutic drugs were not deployed and supplied centrally in 39 hospitals(66.10%),biosafety cabinets were not used in 9 hospitals.Conclusion Some achievements have reached in intravenous infusion therapy in Beijing,but problems still exist in construction of professional teams,intravenous infusion preparation and professional protection.Therefore,positive measures should be taken to promote the professional development of intravenous infusion therapy in Beijing.
