Abstract

The salt and drought tolerance of pepper during seed germination were analyzed of 8 pepper cultivars belong to 4 different types. The results showed that the salt and drought tolerance of different pepper cultivars could be distinguished by all of the three indexes, relative germination potentiality, relative germination percentage and relative germination index, but the classification was not completely same.Significant differences could be observed among different pepper types. The salt tolerances of hot pepper and sweet pepper were classified as the highest and the lowest respectively, and those of pod pepper and line pepper as the intermediate, the line pepper and the hot pepper had the highest and the lowest drought tolerances respectively, and the pod pepper and sweet pepper showed as intermediate. No significant relationship between the salt tolerance and drought tolerance of pepper during seed germination was observed.
