Abstract

Seed germination of 94 sweet sorghum cultivars were investigated through simulating salt stress at different salinity levels. The results indicated that with the increasing of salinity, all materials showed a decrease to various extents in germination rate and germination potential. The salt tolerance of different cultivars was obviously different. The 94 sorghum varieties were classified based on relative salt-injury rate.Five of them were fallen into the first-level tolerance, while 17 into the third-level tolerance,36 into the fifth-level tolerance,15 into the seventh-level tolerance, and 21 into the ninth-level tolerance. There were 22 varieties with high salt tolerance, whose relative salt-injury rate was less than 40%.
