Abstract

Objective To observe the therapeutic effect of neodymium-yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) laser on obstructive diseases of the lacrimal passage. Methods One thousand seven hundred and seven eyes in 1 384 cases with obstructive diseases of lacrimal passage, including obstruction of lacrimal puncta (35 eyes), lacrimal canali-culi (625 eyes), common lacrimal duct (598 eyes) and nasolacrimal duct (449 eyes), were treated by lacrimal plastic operation with Nd:YAG laser. The therapeutic effect was compared among the groups. Results After follow-up for 6 months to 3 years, the cure rates and the effective rates of the 4 kinds of diseases were 74.3% and 94.3%, 40.0% and 57.9%, 36.1% and 51.2%, 31.8% and 43.8% respectively. Conclusions The therapeutic effect of Nd:YAG laser on obstruction of lacrimal puncta was better than that of obstruction of nasolacrimal duct or lacrimal duct.
