Abstract
The microstructure and mechanical properties of a new kind of low alloy bainitic steel were studied after normalizing and low temperature tempering. The results show that the microstructure of bainitic steel after normalizing is a new kind of bainite which consists of bainite ferrite and retained austenite, and the mechanical properties of the bainitic steel is better than that of current premium rail steels: σb 1240~1346 MPa,αku 68~100 J/cm2, δ5 15%~20% and hardness 41.5~45 HRC.This bainitic steel has good tensile toughness, hardness and toughness,so they are applicable to make frog and rail.
