Review of Research on Urban Growth Management

Based on the research literature about urban growth management at home and abroad,the paper combs the development vein of the theory on urban growth management firstly starting with four aspects including the origin,basic connotation,practical analysis and effect evaluation in Western countries,especially in America and analyzes the research statue of urban growth management theory in China. Secondly,the paper has a deep analysis on the new urbanism and the practice of smart growth. Finally,the paper carries out a review on urban growth management at home and abroad and points out that smart growth is the development trend of urban growth management under the new historical conditions in China.
