Application of multi-slice spiral CT in diagnosis of acute appendicitis

Objective:To investigate the CT images and diagnostic value of multi-slice spiral CT(MSCT) in the diagnosis of infant acute appendicitis.Methods:31 cases of pathologically confirmed acute appendicitis were studied by MSCT abdominal scan.Multiplanner reconstruction(MPR) was then performed through sagittal and coronal according to the need.Results:21 cases showed enlarged appendix with thick wall,5 cases with enlarged pouch cavity,23 cases showed increased density with cords in the adipose tissue around appendix,19 cases with appendolith,5 cases with appendiceal abscess,12 cases with fuzzy in the front of right psoas,3 cases were normal.All 31 cases were acute appendicitis confirmed by surgery and pathology.The coincidence rate of diagnosis was 90%.Conclusion:Appendicitis is more clearly revealed with high sensitivity on MSCT.Combined with clinical manifestations and laboratory examination,MSCT has a high diagnostic value.
