Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the curative effect of phacoemulsification (phaco) and implantation of foldable intraocular lens (IOL) to the filtered glaucoma eyes with cataract.Method:18 filtered glaucoma eyes with cataract were operated with phacoemulsification and implantation of foldable intraocular lens through a 3 5mm tunnel incision, which was not sutured after operation.During the postoperative 3~30 months follow up period, visual acuity, corneal astigmatism and intraocular pressure (IOP) were observed. Results:The visual acuities in all of the 18 eyes improved postoperatively:0 02 in 1 eye (5 5%),0 05~0 2 in 2 eyes (11 1%),0 3~0 4 in 5 eyes (27 8%),0 5~0 9 in 7 eyes and 1 0~1 2 in 3 eyes (16 7%).Postoperative astigmatisms were (0 89±0 80)D,(0 75±0 82)D and (0 72±0 78)D at 1 week,1 month and 3 morths respectively, compared with preoperative corneal astigmatism which was 0 78±0 88,there was no significant difference (P0 05).Postoperative IOP at 1 month was (2 20±0 23) kPa,when compared with preoperative IOP which was (2 13±0 34) kPa,there was no significant difference (P0 05).Conclusion:For cataract in filtered glaucoma patients, phacoemulsification and implantation of foldable IOL can be used to avoid disturbing the filtering bleb with little postoperative reactions or change in corneal astigmatism.Patients'visions are improved, and the IOP control is not affected. The operation is safe and reliable.
