Abstract
This paper describes the status of studies on the TiAl intermetallics compound and points out that its brittleness and poor strength at high temperature which are the main barriers limit the practical applications of those alloys as high-temperature structural materials.Two correspondent solutions such as methods of alloying and processing/heat treatment are introduced subsequently while analyzing the mechanisms and effects of alloying and processing/heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties.It also reviews the new production and processes of TiAl-based alloy by classifications.Further research directions,such as theoretical research,new processing technologies and designs of TiAl-based composite are put forward.
