Study on foraging habitat of Common Crane in summer in Tumji Inner Mongolia

Common Crane (Grus grus) is a large wader. Because of the habitat destroyed, their population is reducing, and endangered now. They were listed in appendix Ⅱin CITES and also the Second Category of Protection Birds in China. During July 25 to August 5, 2007, the foraging habitat was investigated in Tumuji National Nature Reserve, Inner Mongolia by GPS and factor determined. 106 samples were recorded with 1m ×1 m. Habitat factors were determined in type, height, coverage, density of vegetation, and depth and flow of water etc. The results showed that the average height was 25cm, average density was lower 60 ind./m2, coverage lower 50%.
