Abstract
Objective To investigate the role of nerve growth factor(NGF) in asthmatic rats and effects of anti-NGF on the expression of NGF in lungs of asthmatic rats. Methods 45 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: control, asthmatic and intervention with anti-NGF groups. The thickness of airway smooth muscle (ASM) was observed by HE staining, and the expression of NGF was measured by immunohistochemical staining. Results The thickness of ASM and the expression of NGF were significantly higher in asthmatic group than those of control and intervention groups(P0.05),and they were much higher in intervention group than those of control group(P0.05).There was a positive relationship between the level of NGF and the thickness of ASM.Conclusions The expression of NGF is increased in the lung tissues of asthmatic rats, and anti-NGF can reduce the expression of NGF.
