Treatment of unilateral mandibular over-development using the full-length marginal mandibular osteotomy

Objective Explore the effect of the full-length marginal mandibular osteotomy on unilateral mandibular over-development.Methods plastic operation was performed on 5 patients with unilateral mandibular over-development as facial need.analysis the mandibular shape according to the preoperative dental panoramic film and the lower mandible reconstruction of three-dimensional CT examination of patients,adopt different operation methods according to the need of patient,the full-length marginal mandibular osteotomy was performed on all of the 5 cases,the outside board of bilateral mandibular angle was cut at the same time for 3 cases.Results After 6 months to 2 years following up postoperatively,all patients with facial contours improved significantly,the basic bilateral symmetry and the normal occlusion were clear effect.Conclusions The full-length marginal mandibular osteotomy had a very good effect on unilateral mandibular over-development.
