Pathological features and differential diagnosis of amelanotic malignant melanoma in nasal cavity

Abstract

Objective: To study the pathological characteristics of primary nasal cavity amelanotic malignant melanoma (PNCMMM) and its differential diagnosis. Methods: 9 cases of PNCMMM were investigated at the light microscopic level ,and all case were studied by immunohistochemical techniques. Results: The principal features were the variety of cellular patterns and histologic structures. Immunohistochemically, the positive rates of the expression of S-100 protein, HMB 45 and vimentin in 9 case of PNCMMM were100%, 88.9%and77.8%, respectively. Conclusions: The histo-pathological features of PNCMMM are of great significance,and immunohistochemical staining plays an important role in its diagnosis and differential diagnosis of other tumors of the nasal cavity.
