Abstract
Purpose:to abserve the ability of brainstem auditory evoked potential(BAEP) to predict the improvement in patients with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE).Measurement:Eighteen patients with HIE were studied, with regard to their ability to recover, using the results of the BAEP.in an inital BAEP testing of 18 patieats and secondry BAEP measurement of 10 of these patients. Results:Initial testing using BAEP revealed abnormal rates of 88.9% while a retesting of 10 patients resalted in the abnormal vate of 30%.Results of this study show that the BAEP measuremen had no significant relevance to the results of intelegence screening of the HIE patient. In conclusion, the BAEP is not a useful method of measuring the potential for recovery in the HIE patients.
