Abstract
In the current state standard Crane Design Rules,the effective steel wire rope's tension is calculated at the rope's maximum static working tension. However,in some working cases of the crane,such as the case of lifting when leaving ground suddenly or of braking when falling,an additional dynamic tension in the rope will be appeared. Based on the vibration theory of single degree of freedom system,this paper discusses the dynamic tension in the rope in those cases.The results are more accurate to the actual data than those from safe coefficient method to determine the rope strength by the mechanism specifications group.
