Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the effects of Glabridin on cultured B16 cells, compared with some whitening agents to discuss the effect of whiting and security. Methods After B-16 melanoma cells were treated with Glabridin, the cell viability, tyrosinase activity and melanin content were measured respectively. The effects of Glabridin on B16 cells were compared with that of hydroquinone, arbutin and Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate. Results All of them showed a concentration-dependent reduction in tyrosinase activity of B16 cells and melanin content was reduced significantly by them. Conclusions Glabridin and Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate had low cytotoxicity. Hydroquinone and arbutin had significant cytotoxicity. Glabridin has low cytotoxicity; and showed a concentration-dependent reduction in tyrosinase activity, and melanogenesis; It may be used as safe and effective whiting agent.
