Abstract

Objective To provide the anatomic data for transfrontal approach to sellar region tumorectomy.Method Using anatomic method, the nerves, blood vessels and other structures of the sellar region were observed on 35 adult head specimens.Result The distance from one side of medial edge of optic canal cranial opening to another side was 11.09±2.22mm.The distance between anterior edge of optic chiasm and prechiasm sulcus was 7.02±1.86mm.The relationships of pituitary and sellar diaphragm were divided into three types:One part of pituitary was above sellar diaphragm(8.75%),or under sellar diaphragm(37.14%),or together for sellar diaphragm(54.29%).The distances between the left and right internal carotid were surveyed as 13.25±2.48mm,17.86±1.55mm at superior wall of cavernous sinus and beginning of anterior cerebral artery. Conclusion Within sellar region tumorectomy, internal carotid artery, optic nerve must be protected, otherwise, the complication would be happen.
