Investigation on command of AIDS knowledge,attitudes and demands of both primary and middle school teachers in Anhui Province

Objective:To investigate the command of AIDS knowledge,attitudes and demands of both primary and middle school teachers in Anhui Province for providing scientific evidence to carry out AIDS health education effectively.Methods: 200 teachers from three schools were recruited by using clustering sample method for self-questionnaire investigation.Statistical analysis of the data was conducted with software of Epi info 5.0 and SPSS 10.0.Results: The results showed that the main resources for them to obtain AIDS related knowledge came from TV program,newspaper or magazine.About the disease prevention related knowledge in teachers,85% of them responded accurately,while only 35.0% could answer the question whether mosquito and insect bites can spread HIV or not,and with the same response from both males and females.17.0% of them felt uneasy in danger of HIV infection.However,most of them hold that they were far from this danger.Unfortunately,those interviewees showed discrimination against AIDS patients.98.0% thought that the best way of preventing AIDS relied on health education,and 89.0% of them argued that it was essential in health education to spread the knowledge of using condom in sexual life.Conclusion: It seems important to carry out health education in many ways in schools,for AIDS prevention can not only benefit to adolescents to obtain AIDS knowledge in due course,but enhance the self safe-guard awareness against AIDS,and what′s more important,it can culture them about the social responsibility and commitment to be against AIDS.
