Abstract
The paper conveys the importance of understanding ambiguity in Chinese and English communication. It classifies ambiguity into the accidental one, the natural disclosure of the contradiction in the structures, and the deliberate one, the active use of this contradiction by the speakers. The different solution of the positive and negative facets in language with the help of this classification is sure to promise successful communication. The paper also discusses the ambiguity in Chinese from phonetics, morphology, syntax, and the sense and reason of language.
