Abstract

The tradition of the Confucian ethics and modern public ethics is diachronic between tradition and modern times.Their differences are: First,traditional society emphasizes on private ethics while modern society on public ethics.Second,the regulating spectrum of traditional ethics is acquaintance society while modern ethics emphasizes on regulating social relations among strangers.Third,traditional ethics is a kind of high-standard,sage's ethics based on self-improvement while modern ethics is a kind of universal and basic ethical norm aiming at regulating interpersonal relations and at maintaining social order.Fourth,traditional ethics persists on taking justice the first priority based on taking public groups the main body while modern ethics persists on taking right the first priority based on taking single person the main body.Fifth,traditional ethics is based on a sort of caring people's emotion of benevolence while modern society of taking a rationality of justice appropriateness and respect as foundation.Meanwhile,there is synchronicity between the two kinds of ethics,and connection and combination can be realized: First,by constantly strengthening education on traditional sage ethics and promoting Chinese ethical character,to regulate and promote modern citizen's ethics.Second,by constantly carrying out education on modern ethical spirit and by promoting civil sense of norm and sense of ethics-obeying and law-obeying,thus to maintain the society's basic ethical order.Third,by combining traditional ethical spirit and modern ethical spirit and by merging Chinese traditional ethics and modern Western ethical spirit together,thus to develop modern society's new ethics.
