Abstract

Objective To investigate the application value of Carotid Ultrasound and Angiography in ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Methods A total of 478 cases of ischemic cerebrovascular disease underwent carotid ultrasound to detect carotid atherosclerosis, among whom 87 cases underwent digital subtraction angiography (DSA).The results were compared between 2 groups. Results Carotid ultrasound detected out carotid atherosclerosis lesions in 397 patients (83.05%),carotid atherosclerosis plaques in 332 (1 098 plaques). The main distribution sites of plaques were by turns carotid bifurcation (BIF),common carotid artery (CCA),internal carotid artery (ICA) and external carotid artery (ECA).No significant difference was noted in detection rates of 70% stenosis and occlusion of extracranial carotid artery between 2 groups (P0.05),but there was in detection rate of 70%~99% stenosis and occlusion (P0.05).There was significant difference in detection of extracranial carotid plaque (P0.05).Conclusion Carotid ultrasound is remarkably different from DSA in detection of 70% stenosis and occlusion of extracranial carotid artery, but the accuracy of diagnosis of ≥70% stenosis and occlusion is lower than DSA,the detection rate higher.Color Doppler ultrasound is of great value in detection of carotid atherosclerotic plaques.
