Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of periodontal therapy on high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) and glycosylated hemoglobin(Hb A1c) in type 2 diabetes patients with periodontitis. Methods Sixty patients with type 2 diabetes and chronic periodontitis were enrolled,they were divided periodontal therapy group and control(without periodontal therapy). Serum hs-CRP and Hb A1 c,periodontal clinical parameters were tested at baseline and 3 months after initial periodontal therapy. Results Serum hs-CRP, Hb A1 c, probing depth(PD),attachment loss(AL) decreased significantly 3 months after initial periodontal therapy(P0.01,P0.01,P0.01,P0.01),there were no change in the control group.Conclusion Periodontal therapy may decrease the micro-inflammation and periodontitis in type 2 diabetes with chronic periodontitis,and is helpful in controlling blood sugar.
