Synthesis of Ethyl Palmitate with Solid Acid as Catalyst

Abstract

Solid super acid such as TiO2/SO2-4,ZrO2/SO2-4 and AlCl3 loaded on macroporous sulfonic acid ionexchange resin were prepared.Effects of many factors,such as varieties of catalyst(including the solid acids prepared,H7·xH2O and H8·xH2O),amounts of catalyst,reaction time and mole ratio of reactants on esterification process were studied. Using TiO2/SO2-4 as catalyst,the optimum technological conditions were temperature 80 ℃,reaction time 12 h,n(palmitic acid)∶n(ethanol)=1∶9 and m(catalyst)∶m(palmitic acid)=008∶1.Under these conditions,yield of ethyl palmitate can reach 9619%.
