Influence of ondansetron combined with dexamethasone on post laparoscopic surgery nausea and vomiting

Objective To investigate the influence of ondansetron combined with dexamethasone on post laparoscopic surgery nausea and vomiting. Methods With double blind method, 100 patients scheduled for laparoscopic surgery under general anesthesia were randomly divided into five groups: Group A ( control, with brine ), Group B ( with ondansetron ), Group C ( with dexamethasone ). Group D (with droperidol) and Group E ( with ondansetron combined dexamethasone ). Nausea and vomiting episodes were recorded for 24h after surgery. Results The incidence of nausea and vomiting in group A(70%) was higher than that in group B(30%) ?group C(30%)?group D(20%)and group E(15%)(P0.05). The incidence in Group E(15%) was lower than that in group B and in group C(P0.05), and was approximate to that in group D(20%) (P0.05). But more side effects were found in group D. Conclusions Ondansetron combined with dexamethasone could reduce the incidence of post laparoscopic surgery nausea and vomiting.
