Abstract
Objective To study the treatment of the lip and nasal deformities after the repir of bilateral cleft lip or bilateral cleft lip and palate. Methods After making a thorough understanding of the structural pathology underlying the morphologic abnormalities,we formulated a surgical method to correct both lip and nasal deformities by diverting local tissues in one stage, advancing prolabium to lengthen the columella, delivering lip and cheek tissues medially to reposit alar base and reshape the nostrils. Results All of 17 patients showed one-stage healing and significant improvement in appearance of their noses and lips. They were followed up for 6~17 months and were satisfied with the effects. Conclusion For the patients whose midfaces are well developed and local tissue are abundant and elastic in the upper lip and cheek, transposition of local tissues from lip and cheek is one way for managing lip and nasal deformities in bilateral cleft lip.
