The evaluation of therapeutic efficiency in glaucoma treated by trabeculectomy with mitomycin C (MMC) and glaucoma shunting device implantation

Objective To evaluate the short therapeutic effect of treating glaucoma by trabeculectomy combined with mitomycin C(MMC)and glaucoma shunting device implantation.Methods Trabeculectomy with MMC and glaucoma shunting device implantation were used to treat 25 eyes of 20 patients with glaucoma.After the operation the best corrected visual acuity(BCVA),intraocular pressure(IOP),shape of filtration bleb,fundus,perimetry depth of anterior chamber and complication were observed six month.Results After operation the mean IOP of 25 eyes was(11.42±2.14)mmHg and 23eyes were between 6~ 21 mmHg,The curative rate was 92.0 %,BCVA improved in 15 eye(60.0%),and functionality filtration blebs were formed in 24 eyes(96.0%),shallow anterior chamber occurred in 6 eyes(24.0%),hyphema in one eye(4.0%)and choroidal detachment in 2 eyes(8.0%).Fundus and perimetry did not change obviously.Conclusion The trabeculectomy combined MMC and glaucoma shunting device implantation can reduce IOP of glaucoma effectively,promote the formation of functionality filtration bleb,and then improve the success rate of glaucoma surgery.
