Abstract
OBJECTIVE To study stroke patients' activities of daily living and long-term care demands, in order to provide theoretical basis for the implementation of long-term care for stroke patients in community. METHODS Residents who were diagnosed as stroke by hospitals and still alive were selected.Questionnaires were used to collect data. RESULTS 1 300 stroke patients were surveyed.17.08% of the patients were total dependence, 6.62% of patients were severe dependence, 8.08% of patients were significant dependence, 8.62% of the patients lived with limited functional independence, 59.60% of the patients lived with complete independence.The better the patients' activities of daily living were, the more satisfied the patients felt.39.19% of patients living with complete independence satisfied with life living, 19.59% of patients living with limited functional independence satisfied with life living, 15.22% of patients living with significant dependence satisfied with life living, 8.79% of patients ling with severe dependence satisfied with life living, and 5.67% of patients living with total dependence satisfied with life living. Activities of daily living associated with life demand closely. The worse the ability of daily living was, the higher long-term care demand would be.CONCLUSIONS The stroke patents felt lower satisfaction with their life.Long-term care demands are associated with activities of daily living, therefore relevant life service should be provided according to the patients' activities of daily living.
