An analysis of relationship between mental health status and personality characteristics in medical college students

Objective To understand mental health status in medical college students and the relationship between personality characteristics and mental health status.Methods Five hundreds and seven medical college students were measured by Eysenck personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90).Results The mental health status of the subjects was better than national norm and that of national undergraduate samples.The mental health status of the subjects of mental medical speciality was better than that of the clinical medical speciality.The mental health status had positive correlation with the personality of extraversion and the comprehension degree of mental health knowledge,and had negative correlation with the personality of instability. Conclusion The mental health status in medical college students is related to the characteristics.The education of mental health knowledge should be emphasized in college students.
