Clinical observation on the combination of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine in the treatment of phlebitis caused by chemotherapy

Objective To approach the therapeutic effects of the integration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Western medicine on phlebitis. Methods 104 in-patients were randomly divided into two groups: the treatment group, accepted the integrated treatment of the Traditional Chinese Medicine of the lotion (comprising of rhubarb, skullcap, and phellodendron chinese schneid, which is known as San Huang Shui or Three Fellows Lotion) and the Western medicine of Hirudoid; and the control group, accepted the traditional treatment of magnesium sulfate. Results The incidence of phlebitis was decreased apparently in experimental group compared to that in the control group. Conclusions The integration of Chinese and Western medicines can release patients’ sufferings, the therapeutic effect thereof is superior to that of the traditional method.
