Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of thymosin alpha-1 on preventing primary nephrotic syndrome. Methods: Sixty frequently relapsing patients were randomly divided into intervention group(n = 30) and control group(n = 30).Both were given the comprehensive treatment (steroid). The patients of intervention group were also given thymosin alpha-1 (1.6 mg),injected hypodermically,5 days a term, another term was repeated if necessary. The levels of CD3+,CD4+,CD8+ and CD4+/CD8+ were tested before and after the intervention. Results: The levels of CD3+,CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ increased and CD8+ decreased more significantly after the treatment(P 0.05).The levels of CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ increased more significantly, but CD8+ decreased more significantly in the intervention group than those in control group (P 0.05).The relapse rate was significantly lower in the intervention group than that of the control group. Conclusion: Thymosin alpha-1 can regulate T cell effectively, increase cell immunity, enhance the immunity to infection and prevent frequent relapse of primary nephrotic syndrome.
