Application of drawing method on teaching surgical skills of medical students

Objective To explore the value of drawing method on teaching surgical skills of medical students. Methods The teachers used a three-steps teaching method. Firstly, the teachers introduced surgical techniques by using the illustrations and operative photographs. Secondly, the medical students performed the surgery under the supervision of the teachers. Lastly, the students were required to finish the operative records with self drawing illustrations. Results A satisfactory teaching effect was achieved. Most of the students had positive attitudes towards this kind of teaching method. Conclusion It is an effective teaching method in teaching surgical skills of medical students, which help the students to understand and improve the surgical techniques, and to have critical thinking of surgery.
