Control study of mirtazapine and maprotiline in the treatment of somatoform disorder.

Abstract

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and side effects of mirtazapine and maprotiline in the treatment of somatoform disorder. Methods 64 patients with somatoform disorders were randomly assigned into mirtazapine group and maprotiline group,and both were treated for 8 weeks. The efficacy and side effects were evaluated with Hamilton Anxiety Scale( HAMA) ,Hamilton Depression Scale( HAMD) and Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale( TESS) before the treatment and after 2、4、6、8 weeks. Results After treatment,the scores of HAMA、HAMD reduced significantly in two groups( P 0. 01) ,there was no difference between the two groups at the same time( P 0. 05) . The effective rates of mirtazapine group and maprotiline group were 81. 25% and 84. 38% ( χ2 = 0. 11,P 0. 05) . The rate of side effects of mirtazapine group was 15. 63% ,it was lower than that of maprotiline group( 40. 63% ,χ2 = 4. 95,P 0. 05) . Conclusion Mirtazapine has equivalent positive efficacy as maprotiline in the treatment of somatoform disorder with low side effects.
