The homelessness sector in South Australia (SA) has a long history and remains largely dependent upon government funding to continue to support the provision of support to vulnerable individuals and households. The sector's history - with its origins in faith-based and other charitable organisations - has resulted in a diverse group of institutions providing services to the homeless, with these organisations varying by region of operation, size of the service and by client profile - with various organisations respectively focussed on youth, Aboriginal Australians, women fleeing violence in the home etc.
