Epidemiological investigation of simple obesity among middle school students in Yangchun City.

Objective To study the prevalence of overweight and obesity in middle school students, and its associated factors. Method An investigation was conducted in the middle school students using the multi-stage cluster random sampling method. Results The prevalence rate of overweight and obesity were 6.98% and 2.81%, respectively, for middle school students in Yangchun.Overweight and obesity were more prevalent in boys than in girls. Parents' obesity, speed of eating, types of vegetable consumed were the risk factors of obesity. Conclusion Bad eating habits and lifestyles are the risk factors associated with obesity of middle school students.Parents also have an influence on the obesity of their children.
