Abstract

The volatile components of the fruits of two varieties of Vitex agnus-castus L. (Verbenaceae) were obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by GC and GC-MS. Altogether 41 components were identified. Sabinene and 1,8–cineole were the main monoterpene components of the oils. β-Caryophyllene was the major sesquiterpene compound in both oils. The examined oils show a significant antibacterial activity.
