Abstract

The corn earworm, Heliothis zea (Boddie), and the tobacco budworm, H. virescens (F.), are important pests of tobacco in the United States. Previous to the past decade, the tobacco budworm had been considered to occur only rarely in Kentucky. Although not nearly so abundant as the corn earworm in Kentucky, the budworm is now often of considerable importance on tobacco in late August and September.
