The research activity of engineering area in Japan shows a downward trend in recent years. Under the present circumstances, engineering education becomes more important. Graduate attributes form a set of individually assessable outcomes that are the components indicative of the graduate′s potential to acquire competence to practise at the appropriate level. Graduate attributes of the Washington Accord (WA) include the importance of research. A new trend of engineering education with engineering design, interdisciplinarity and teamworking is introduced. The sense of research in engineering area is essential in engineering design education.
