Abstract
The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Water Supply Engineering Committee's Task Committee on Control of Microbes in Drinking Water has after several years of labor completed a monograph on controlling microorganisms in drinking water. One of the chapters in the monograph is on the use of chlorine dioxide as a drinking water disinfectant. Awaiting publication of the aforementioned monograph, this presentation provides a brief synopsis of the chapter on the use of chlorine dioxide. Topics covered include, disinfection potential, disinfection by-products and their control, concerns of by-products on human health, and production-related issues.
