Abstract

Anatomical characteristics on the leaves of ten Carices are described in this paper.The leaves of Carex rotundata are convolute, and show an intermediate form between trigonal and flattened leaves.Carex tsuishikarensis has the trigonal leaves, and the fibre cells stretch beneath the upper epidermis.In Carex maculata hinge cells have thin and wavy walls, spine cells and also the stomata exist in the upper epidermis, and the protuberances are numerous in the under epidermis.Carex capillaris and Carex tenuiformis have many similarities, but the former species differs from the latter in having the protuberances in the upper epidermis.Both Carex dissitiflora and C. bostrichostigma show rather simple leaf-structures and the difference between them is in the presence of the spine cells in the upper epidermis in the former species.Carex soriofkensis is very like to Carex canescens, and Carex Brownii to Carex transversa, and Carex apodostachya to Carex peiktusani.
