Selective cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitors are associated with fewer gastrointestinal complications and endoscopic lesions than are prescription-strength nonselective nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). However, few studies have compared over-the-counter (OTC) doses of nonselective NSAIDs with coxibs.
