Results of malaria surveillance in Sanjiang Tongzu Autonomous County in 2000-2007 in Guangxi.

Abstract

Objective To analyze the soures of positive cases detected,malaria parasites species and in the last 8 years in the county after malaria annual incidence dropped to under 1/10000.Methods The data of positive patients detected by blood examination in the county from 2000 to 2007 were collected and statistically analyzed.Results During the last 8 years,there 111 malaria cases were reported,89.19% of them wer from floating population.Plasmodium vivax malaria predominated.No Plasmodium falciparum malaria cases were reported in the local residents.Most malaria patients in floating population were infected in countries from Southeast Asia,which occupied 69.70% of malaria patients in floating population.Conclusion Recently the nature of malaria areas of the county has already changed radically.Returned population infected malaria from other provinces particularly Southeast Asia countries has become predominant.
