Screening of Aerobic Denitrifying Bacillus and Study on Denitrification Characteristics

Abstract

Many Bacillus strains with aerobic denitrification character were isolated from the water and sediment of shrimp culture ponds.Among them,the Bacillus YX-6 could degrade nitrite nitrogen from 10(mg/L) to zero in 14 h,as well as approximately 100% of nitrite nitrogen removal rate at a DO mass concentration of 5.2-5.8(mg/L).Furthermore,in comparison with the denitrifying Bacillus selected as the positive control,the denitrification characteristics of Bacillus YX-6 were tested under different pH,temperature,nitrite concentration and salinity.The results showed that the aerobic denitrification characteristics of Bacillus YX-6 were significantly higher than those of the positive control(P0.05).According to morphological observation,physiological and biochemical properties,and 16S rDNA molecular identification,the Bacillus YX-6 was identified primarily as Bacillus coagulans.
