Abstract
Three varieties of urdbean were treated with chemical mutagens (EMS) and gamma rays. In M2 observation on eight characters were recorded for overall variance. All mutagen doses induced in M2 plants with desirable attributes were selected from M2 families higher cv., and mean values from the respective control. The study reveals that mutagenesis is a important tool for the improvement of polygenic characters. The mutants were identified for plant height, early maturity, dwarf, non-shattering, seed colour and disease resistant.
