Abstract

A new thin-layer chromatographic me/hod for the detection of carbaryl \n(I-ruiphthyl N-methyl carbamate), carbofuran (2,3.dihydro-2, 2-dimethyl.7-benzofiJr. \nanyl methyl carbamate) and baygon r-isopropoxyphenyl N-merhyl carbamate) from \nvegetables was developed using 4:4-diaminodiphenyl su/phone as a chromogenic reagent \nand benzene-acetone as developing solvent. The Rfvalues in this system were 0.25, \n0.23, and 0.20 for carbaryl. carbofuran and blygon, respectively. The method is \nsensitive upto 0.05 I'g ofcarbaryl. carbofuran and baygon and enables to detect as low \nas 0.02 ppm of these imecticide residues from vegetables.
