Abstract
This paper describes a new hull form of a foil assisted catamaran concept which was developed to meet the higher performance requirements dictated by recent and future operational parameters. A further aim was to reduce the horse power by at least 15% in comparison with a normal catamaran with equivalent seaworthiness. From these design concepts, two hull forms were designated, their main characteristics were a passive foil to reduce the resistance and a slender long bow to minimize the longitudinal motions. To verify the hull form characteristics, towing tank tests were performed and the hull forms showed fairly good resistance and seakeeping performance. This paper describes the design procedure, towing tank results and future plans regarding the catamaran development.
