Abstract
The effect of planting methods and Farm Yard Manure (FYM)/crop residue management on yield and yield contributing characters of mungbean (var. SML 668) was studied on a loamy sand irrigated soil during kharif 2004 and 2005. Different planting methods (conventional tillage, fresh beds, permanent beds and no tillage) gave similar seed yield and yield contributing characters as they did not differ significantly. Seed yield, pods/plant, seeds/pod and 100 seed weight were significantly higher where 5 t FYM ha−1 along 50% of recommended fertilizer dose (50% RFD + M5) and crop residue incorporation/mulching along recommended fertilizer dose (RFD-R) were applied. Yield of mungbean showed significant correlation with dry matter production, plant height, PAR interception at various growth stages and also with pods/plant and 100 seed weight. Regression analysis revealed that pods/plant and seeds/pod accounted for 59.9 and 68.0 per cent variation in seed yield.
