Abstract
The Department of Main Roads, N.S.W., is currently constructing a new bridge across the Murrumbidgee River at Gundagai. The bridge has three main spans across the river namely two variable depth closed steel box girders with a concrete deck, and twenty-four spans forming a viaduct across the flood plain, consisting of two steel trapezoidal trough-girders with a concrete deck. The piers are mainly of precast prestressed concrete segmental construction. The paper outlines the design of the bridge, and the design reasons for the various features are stated. Details of the construction and test loading of the foundation piles are also outlined. /Author/
