Persistence of endosulfan and monocrotophos in and on unprocessed and processed okra fruits

Abstract

Endosulfan (0.07% cone.) spray on okra fruits resulted in 4.66 ± 0.295 and 4.352 ± 0.242 ppm average initial deposits during 1st and lind season, respectively which persisted upto 8 days of application while in case of monocrotophos (0.05% cone.), the average initial deposits were 7.491 ± 0.588 and 6.483 ± 0.560 ppm during the two seasons and the residues persisted even upto 16 days after spray. Residues after washing and cooking separately, were below the tolerance limit of endosulfan but residues of monocrotophos were higher than the tolerance limit of 0.2 ppm even on 8th day after washing and on 4th day after cooking. Waiting period for small okra fruit was 3 and 15 days for endosulfan and monocrotophos sprays respectively.
