Status of Organochlorine Pesticide Residues in Sesame Seeds Collected from Different Geographical Regions of India

Abstract

Thirty genotypes of sesame seeds collected from different geographical regions of India were analyzed for organochlorine pesticides viz HCHs, DDTs and endosulfan. The average recovery values of o,p-DDT, p,p-DDT, α-HCH, β-HCH, endosulfan I, endosulfan II fortified with 1.0 and 2.0 μg g−1 were above 85%. The residue studies indicated that DDT, HCH and endosulfan metabolites were found below the detectable limit in all sesame samples.
